Philippe CORNEZ's Bio:

CORNEZ Philippe was born in LIEGE on 12 February 1957. Become Officer in 1982 and served different Minesweepers till 1985 than Commanding Officer of the M485 ANDENNE. In 1987-1988 he specialised as anti-submarine Officer in the Netherlands en joined the F912 WANDELAAR. From end 1989 until mid-92, he was appointed in the Planning Section, Weapons Systems, of the Belgian Naval Staff. Mid-92, he took charge of the operational department of the F913 WESTHINDER and participate in the embargo control in the Adriatic (SHARP VIGILANCE - SHARP FENCE). He left to join the Operational Command. He attended the Royal Defense Institute between 94 and 95 and become Commanding Officer of the M917 Crocus in 1995. In 1996 he join Den Helder in the Netherlands as head of the frigates simulators section and then as head of general education. including the coordination and control of the operational training of the officers of both navies. From June 1998 on until July 1999 he will assume the duty of second in command on board WANDELAAR and participate in "SHARP WATCH" in the Adriatic with Her. Until July 2001 he was Principal assistant to the Chief of Naval Staff. During more than 3 years he will assume command of the Belgian navy naval base of Zeebrugge, taking care of the support to the fleet and the naval base services. Also organizing the Belgian navy days with more than 50.000 visitors. Between 2005 and 2009, he is in charge of the public relations and image building department of the Navy with the rank of Commander s.g. He ended his career in the Navy in charge of the Nato Center of Excellence for Naval Mine Warfare Ph. Cornez is married. He and his wife Isabelle have two sons and live in Ostend. Since the international courses started in 1975, several hundreds of NATO students have passed through the school, thereby forging comradeship and mutual understanding in the difficult domain of Naval Mine Counter Measures. The school now also has courses available for non-NATO students.
